Powerful it Sings

The water sings as it swells,
seek shelter while you can.
Run away before I pull you out to sea.
Each wave seems higher than before
as they crash upon the shore.
Showing us their mighty power
ahead of the impending storm .
The skies grew dark as if it were night,
though it is only noon.
Feel the wind, the mighty gusts,
pushing the waves higher.
Wiping out everything,
that dare to stand in it's wake.
Waves clash high upon the rocks,
warning us of danger.
Thunder and lightening in the distance,
the rain begins to fall.
We watch a ship ride the swells,
will it be lost at sea.
The rain now is so hard,
shelter we have found.
We cuddle together to wait it out
not knowing our own fate.
Soon it is quite,
should we venture out?
When we do the waters are calm,
the sun is out the air smells fresh.
We've made it through another storm,
though the land before us has changed.

Author notes

I honestly love storms, though they can get real intense. I don't like the destruction they can bring though. My prayers go out to those here in the US that have been affected by Ike, I have never seen one effect so far in to the states as this one has.

    Feeling the Storm

This poem embodies the feelings I get when on the beach and an impending storm looms. You have captured the imagery of the feeling of electricity on the skin and countless waitings and loves of lost or potentially anxiousness of those who watch the sea for the return of loved ones. Very nicely done. Good luck with the contest! If I had any applause left, you would definately have them!
