So kid - where d'ya get the knife?

Don't you wanna know why I took his life?

We'll get to that - where'd it come from son?

I'm sixteen man, I can't afford no gun.

I'll ask until you tell me lad.

Cut the shit mate you ain't my dad,

I confessed to it, I stabbed the guy.

Why you so concerned with the how, not the why?

Got any kids? Two lads on the force;

Ain't seen my girl since the divorce,

You know how that goes.

My folks are still married, shows what you know.

So where d'you get it? From a mate at school?

The knife ain't the issue-it was just the tool,

I'm the deadly weapon, I'm the cause of death,

I cut his throat, bled out his last breath.

You aren't hearing me, it ain't going in,

I committed a fucking sin.

Easy boy, we're just talking here,

We just got to get the time line clear.

Time line? Of what? The day of the crime?

Try going back mate, further in time.

Try starting with summer of 2008,

When the world went to shit

And all love turned to hate,

Try going back to 2010,

When my dad was laid off again and again,

So the bank took our house and my sister away,

Cos mum hadn't paid up her child tax that day,

And the greens took our car cos the green tax was late,

First of December-yeah write down that date-

The day that me mam got locked up inside,

Cos the bitch on the corner told the social she cried,

So they put her on drugs just because she was sad,

And me dad lost the woman he knew as a lad;

I'm a killer man, its inside me, such rage-

I used to be vacant and now I'm engaged,

Fucking hell bent on destroying you all,

Smiling, laughing, walking tall,

When the world is a bomb just waiting to blow,

Just like my anger, that simmered real slow-

Where d'you get it kid, just tell me where-

Jesus man, why the fuck do you care?

Procedure, for statistics see-

So you can ignore this reality?

Cos you don't wanna face what a young boy can do,

The message still ain't getting through,

I did it. Cos the fucker smiled,

Thats all he did and I went wild,

Wasn't even drunk so you can't blame booze,

I am a killer that you can't lose,

In numbers and politics and headlines and noise,

Tell you what mate, ask one of your boys,

Ask him where he'd get a knife,

Fuck, ask him if he'd take a life.

My lads are bright, not scum like you-

Carry loaded guns and batons too?

Thought so, yeh man they're just waiting,

Keeping legal, anticipating,

The day the scars of 2012

Raise their ugly badass selves.

Your dad went down cos he shot a copper,

Banged up for life kid, good and proper-

He's a prisoner of war, and I'll see him free,

My dads a hero, nothing like me.

There was no war son, just a lot of angry men,

2012 won't happen again.

Is that what you are kid? Like father like son?

My dad had a purpose, my dad used a gun.

I used a knife that was left in a drawer

I was peeling some spuds when he walked in the door.

So you were holding the weapon before the attack?

I am the weapon and my casing cracked-

Fucker laughed man, laughed and smiled and I-

I killed him cos I wanted to cry.

Wow Em. I sure missed you, my lil sister. Sobering story, surely. What's the most sobering is there are people walking around, just this messed up. They're raising kids, and going to work and acting like otherwise normal, non-threatening lives. Inside they're seething, ticking away. . .I understand that particular rage, maybe not this well. Yes, Sweetheart, we have to wound in order to feel. Again, as always, an intensely honest look at just how fucked up people can be...
    love you,
    jin

Yeah! This was like the O.G. beat poets and Tom waits hopped in the time machine to the future. Great cadence, rythym and style. One of the most genuinely entertaining reads I've come across in awhile. You are the poet! My only criticism, and it is Mild, is it could've benefitted from a bit more of a title.

    Superb

Wow, must unique, indeed. Imagery, rhythm and rhyme are just fine. Thanks for sharing this one with us. Again, well done.

wow. i am so glad i took the time to set and read that. this poem, it's story is incredibly sad, i loved it though. your rhyming and flow was incredible and i liked your style of writing. very unique and very creative. i liked how you made it a conversation and how one guy was tryign to get a simple fact from another which told the whole story behind the murder. sounds like a horrible life this teenager lived, a sad one which happens too much simply because we set back and try pretending that nothing is happening. then when we do get involved we don't really help, but sometimes we make the bad worste. and once the damage is done to the children's soul, then it is done. we can send them to therapy and put them in the sugar coated "foster home" which is supposed to be so "good" for them, but we cannot erase what they have already seen, what their eyes have taken in and their ears has listened to.

that was an amazing part, because it contained the truth, we don't want to face what a young kid can do. they can do a whole shit of stuff.
