I'd never longed to be a mother,
but Baby Grey, let me tell you,
I can't wait to meet you.
I'm not someone to be desired,
I know that.
Baby, I can't say
that you won't want for anything,
because that could be anything
and I can't give you everything.
I can't promise you won't hate this place
that so many have hated before you.
It's a shattered place,
with green smoke everywhere
and purple perfume to make the
sunny apocalypse smell nice.
But, Baby, I can truly say,
that so long as I have a mind to grasp it,
and air enough to move me;
you will never want for love.
Author notes
For my own little baby-o unborn. I am so excited to meet her, I could just pop.

Ha! The very esscense of motherhood bubbles up from this one like a cup overfilled with fizzy orange pop, only it doesn't sting the nose

Your poem excites me, because as a mother of 3 I know the beauty a child can bring. One of my best friends had no desire to be a mother, then at 38 she got pregnant and you would think she had been doing this since she was 20... children are a gift that you can't possibly know unless you've had them yourself. Great poem, thank you for entering the contest. Good luck.

wonderful
Thank-you for your words and no worries I pray you never write about this.... Write only of the love and wonders that your baby will bring you. Best wishs to you and your unborn baby. Live and Love
