It’s a Girl!

Missing image

‘Twas the dead of night and people slept
In the comfort of their bed,
And the old clock chimed each hour away,
Close by to the old bed head.

The child inside gave an urgent thrust
In the Mother wide awake,
Who gently shook her slumbering spouse
As she thought of things to take

To hospital in that country town,
Was one of the best they state,
The man dialled up on the bedside phone
A glance at his panting mate

Her face was filled with dread and joy
For the pulsing pain was strong,
While she organized her suitcase things,
She knew it would not be long.

The taxi came, and the vocal male
To the driver shouted “speed!”
To the hospital across the town
For the birth of his precious seed.

Now the hospital was well equipped
For the care of Mum and child,
The sedated man was now made calm
He was rendered meek and mild.

On the birthing table now she climbed
While the doctor donned his gown,
She shouted loud as the pains increased
And the infant headed down.

The doctor smiled at the watching nurse
As he held the baby high,
He smacked the newborn on the back
And the child gave a lusty cry.

The Mother looked at newborn girl
With a radiant smile of joy,
There was mischief plain on Mother’s face,
He was hoping for a boy!

Then the doctor sought the pacing Pop
And reported all was well,
They led him to his newborn child
Entranced by the baby’s spell

“She’s beautiful,” he told his wife
When she later on awoke,
Let’s plan on another very soon!
And he chuckled at his joke

With narrowed eyes she surveyed his face
When her pulsating pain had eased,
“You’ll carry the next one by yourself,
Then we’ll see if you look so pleased!”
