The Elixir’s Claim

What can change her innocence
into bondage of the darkest soul
Radiant grace full of youthful finesse
now overcast with ominous shades from Sheol

Were we to witness her womanhood
as the secrets of love and sex ignite
Or ponder with her over morals misunderstood
as temptation kindled her heat in the moonlight

When is the sacrifice ever enough
watching her pain and withering spirit
Her self-imposed prison with fettered handcuff
swindling her youth and restraining life’s permit

Proper and prim in her linen and laces of white
destined for love, but in need of a chaperone
Absinthe’s aphrodisiac of uninhibited delight
the elixir’s languished claim if we fail to condone

Hmmm, thought I commented on this before. Must have missed it.
You have a knack for taking this pictures and digging deep beyond the surface to prodice an amazing set of words in meaning. Love the capture you got from the image.

This is a really intense piece. I love the language you use--it compliments the emotions behind it perfectly. The last stanza is really wonderful. Thanks so much for entering.

Great images and depth in this. Nice job. Don't know which lines I like best; you started out powerful - and ended that way also.
    Well done!

Brilliant poem, by a poet who writes thoughtful lines, always...

Ah, so glad to see a poem by you, fine poet person. This one has lines of cleverness and drama that sends the reader on an adventure to places... scary and all!
