Twin Towers

Towers fell for three planes that day
With them anyone above the impact
I remember not understanding what it meant
Newly broken families only able to go to a memorial

Tall standing out on  New York's horizon
Open empty space is now a scarring wound
When the city came together it was in wake of a tragedy
Each child of a loss will have grief breaking their heart
Remembering the ones who were sopposed to tuck them in at night
Silent while their friends complain about hating their parents

Collapsing on a city that was unaware- on a September morning facades went up in flames
Chilly air whipped New Yorkers faces and drew their eyes to the fire spewing from glass
Stopped where they stood lives were lost by  inaction of the ones sopposed to protect
Coded messages went unread- warnings were silenced- three thousand people died

Children lie awake at night wishing on a star for the the ones that said goodbye that morning
Never forgetting the losses now apart of who they are even as the rest of us have normal lives
People cry for the memory of the fire fighters who died giving everything to their community
We won't forget 9|11- not now- not in ten years
We won't deny those still grieving piercing tears
