we tried to build a castle of seashells.
to forever be beside the ocean,
to forever hear the calming, soothing sounds,
mixed with the passion of a first love.
but the waves crashed down hard around us
and with it brought an anger that destroyed all in its path.
you told me that I wasn’t street-smart,
but when all the traffic-lights would always glare at me
with that bright red color
I couldn’t help but get frustrated.
all I wanted was a break from the stress.
so I had a sip of my secret-stashed bottle
from the glove compartment.
and suddenly all the lights seemed jade-green;
until the flashing blue lights caught up with me,
exposed my crime
and sent me off to prison
where your heart wasn’t attainable,
where the bottle was unreachable
where my tears would constantly fall.
the stars stopped colliding
and started drifting apart instead.
