Little golden locket
Hanging on my windowpane
Crusted over red
Refuses to open now
I see it everyday
There alone and sad
Hopelessly sun-dyed
I become a little
Starry-eyed
Stare a moment
Remembering, remembering
By a little secret creek
Quiet talk and whispers
A promising exchanged
Or
At least when you get back
Why couldn't it have been a rose?
Then maybe it would've died with you,
Then maybe I wouldn't remember you.
I waited that summer all my life
An empty job and lonely house
Tried so hard not to cry
Not to think of you
But that emblem on my neck
Kept safe and bound to you
Then I heard, I knew
I won't be loving you more
Why couldn't it have been a rose?
Then maybe it would've died with you
Then maybe I wouldn't remember you.
Why not a rose, then it would have died
With the two of us that day.

Then maybe it would have died with you." that just speaks so much on it's own... thank you so much for entering... i really enjoyed this piece and loved your take on the prompt... good luck in my contest....
