Seven Years

Shockwaves burst
Through the outer walls,
Barriers broken
In deep dispair,
As riptides draw within
The gravity of the situations at hand.

There once was a city,
'twas the light of the world,
Despite it's seedy underbelly,
Two towers stood,
Above all else,
Reaching to the sky like fists of the mighty,

Then the crash, the arms collapse,
All that once did fuel them
Pour out of it's veins.
The catacalysmic detach
From society,
Now it's every man for himself.

An army came,
Armed in gear, weapons of courage,
They fought all blood and tears,
Battling the way through ashen sufferage.
Hands swept up the children,
Hearts guided the way,
The mothers and fathers,
Fled to the daylight,
None was quiet,
None was safe,
For the towers of York,
Collapsed today.

An army fought past the gates.
An army breached the walls.
An army danced the most arcane dangers,
A dance in fire, hand in hand, they fought.

On this day, seven years hath passed,
On this day, we remember the mighty,
On this day, they began what shall not last,
On this day, I scream out to deity!

Honor them.
Those of the maultese cross.
This was the cross they bared this day.

Author notes

I never felt as much until I joined their ranks.
Fire Fighter.
May they all rest in peace.

      Aye, well...
I had no choice but to write,
      And what has been written,
Or what even could've been written,
Is never enough, in my eyes.
      Ah well...
      I'm glad you like it.
      Thank you.

This is a highly emotional writ that pulls at the heart, and creates a well of tears in my spirit. These tears are pride-filled, filled with angusih, and with a sense of honor.

My son-in-law was a professional football player who always wanted to be a fireman. Now that he is injured, and cannot play for the NFL any longer, he is finally persuing his dream, and taking the Fire Fighter's test. I pray he is successful, and his dream is fulfilled.

I commend the efforts of these courageous workers for the betterment of humanity. I have always been in awe of those who put their lives on the line for others. It seems that 911 brought out hordes of such people.

This poem is expertly written with all the devices we see that create devastatingly beautiful poetry. I wish you the best in both Comps.

    Much Love Always ♥

      Hmmn.
      I could look them up.
      I am a firefighter.
Only, at the time, I was not.
      Sadly.
I would've rather been fending the flames along side them.

      Thank you.
      I'm glad you like it.

Hunny this was beautiful really. It's different from most of the stuff you do and I think that's why I'm so struck by it. You can feel how sincere you are in this, and how much it means to you. Very well done, and I'm glad you got some emotion out of you.

    Sincerely,
    Eggeh
    and

      Emotion...
It runs far too deep for words, in this case.
      Either way, thank you...

I could write on and on,
But it would still not do it justice to how I feel.
      Trust me...
      'tis not a problem.

Yeah. I understand my husband is a retired firefighter. He served 25 years. And when 9-11 occurred he was still with his department.

A year ago a firefighter friend of ours was killed by a bus hitting him as he was putting out a fire on the interstate. He left a young family behind.

Also, this is a wonderful poem Can i suggest that you submit it to my 9-11 contest. I would appreciate it. I am asking for poems that honor our fallen hero's.

Thanks for at least thinking about it.

I will submit it, though I know it's not my best.
My father's been a firefighter since I was born,
I was finishing up the E.M.T. course,
And I started volunteering with my station now,
And going through the fire academy.
It's always around me, so I kinda have to think about it.
Not that I wouldn't anyway, but...
      I hate that I wasn't there then.

    wow

I must say, I am impressed by this piece. Very well written, and very smooth to read, yet gets the reader thinking of what is going thru your mind.

    Tears

All of us weep for the lost - you have written this with our tears. I sit a mile away from the Pentagon, where another memorial is being dedicated today. The "what ifs" and "could have beens" for all those lives echo in your lines. Thank you.

      Such a strange feeling...
Though I have joined them as a firefighter,
I could never hold myself at their level,
Even though I would have joined them without hesitation,
      And still would.
      In any case,
      To all the brave souls,
      Firefighters,
      Medics,
      Military,
      Even down to
      Everyday civilians who helped,
      Risked,
      And lost their lives...
      Your courage will live on.
      Hooah!
