The holidays are here,
it’s time to celebrate
Thanksgiving comes around first,
they all think it is great
They gather together in droves,
for a feast fit for a king
It’s turkey that is served,
I mean with everything
Things they have to do,
and people there to see
A bustling time of year,
for all but you and me
They’ll go to a parade,
sit down with their friends
It’s been this way for years,
and it won’t ever end
Now that the turkeys gone,
their guests have left for home
They’re feeling empty just like us,
because we always eat alone
I’ll prep for Christmas now,
the house will look of cheer
And no one will ever know,
I sit alone and drink my beer
Today is Christmas Eve,
it’s family that we see
A season that we celebrate
but not for you and me
Christmas Day is here,
the only time we pray
That someone comes to visit,
if only for the day
The holidays are gone,
thank god I made it through
I spent my time with me,
you spent yours with you
It is nobody’s fault,
we do not feel the cheer
I wish it’d go away,
that holiday time of year

Nicely done.
Good rhyme, wording, images and emotion. Easy to feel the lonliness in this.
For many, the holidays are a depressing time - and you've depicted it well.
thank you for your lovely entry
best wishes in the contest

I really enjoyed this. Most people feel compelled to write about how joyful the holidays are, but you wrote about an underlying feeling that seems to be in every holiday, that I think most people do feel. Excellent poem!
