MOTHER EARTH
Mother earth struggles beneath the weight of mankind
We take and we take from the beauty she would give
Struggling to replenish, she is falling behind
If we don’t wake up soon we’ll have no place to live
We don’t want our children to be left with our mess
We don’t want their future to be grievous and dire
If we rise up together our earth we could bless
Let love of our world be our united desire
If we join hearts together we can all give back
To our dear Mother Earth who needs all of our care
The wellness of our planet is under attack
But we could bring healing if we’d all do our share
So dear people of the world please hear this one plea
Let’s rise up together and set Mother Earth free!

Lottsa Luck Pam - Lol
The poem is wonerfully framed - the rhyme and flow are beautiful - man was given dominion over the earth and the animals - to use - but never abuse - maybe this global meltdown will make us set our sights lower as far as materialism goes - and do the things that are important

Thank you Joe! I just noticed that I had never replied to your comment. Sorry about that!

So true are these words and it will be one day either with us or without us I so hope we choose to be one and bring this earth back to life and beauty for our children to come

A lesson, in poetry
"But we could bring healing if we’d all do our share." This is a universal principle. Nature knows how to rejuvinate but needs human cooperation to do that. You've pointed that out so well and highlighted the dangers we face if we don't do our part. Oh, and doesn't that also apply to our human interelationships as well? Thanks for reminding us of this important principle.

Thank you Ian. I always enjoy your insightful comments on my poems. And yes, the principle does apply to our interelationships as well!

Where have all the flowers gone...?
Oh!, I think I know...they are at least, alive and well and in full bloom in one special persons' garden, somewhere in Canada...I applaud you my comrade in arms for the values that you hold so dear; so emotionally embrace; for your sensitive, yet outspoken heartfelt cry, for this planet; our home, you are one with the Earth Pam,... "you, who feel her death pains..." (flood pains)...keep the flag of peace flying always, it is the cross that we must carry...I will help you carry it...
thank you for sharing these courageous words...they will not go unheard, nor be wasted..
Your brother
John

Hey...I know that song, "Where have all the flowers gone?" I often sing it to my little boy at night. Thank you John for such a lovely comment! Pam

Thank you Amera! I was unsure if a sonnet could have 12 syllable lines, but that is just the way it came out! Pam

This is beautiful and it carries a very important message that all should pay attention to. It is so true that most of us waste so much, and do not think of the future for our earth. Great job, and this shows so much thought and wisdom. I also like your rhyme scheme. Blessings, Patty
