The Ritual

Eyes half open
Sunlight seeps through slits
The golden tint almost resembles reality
Anthropomorphic misrepresentations
Androids made to mock the living
Taking on a human form
Waiting to strike

These monsters veiled as saviors
False messiahs of the modern world
Bones crack with thunderous manner
As frantic fingers scramble for something to grasp
Slipping, clinging, reaching, flailing
The drowning can’t afford to be squeamish
They take whatever hand they can get
In the desperate hopes that their savior won’t be their foe

Wither will we wander?
When wicked woes weigh wearily?
Redundancy is the pattern of life
Until broken by the chasm
Hope springs forth with pleasant stride
Beaming in blessed radiance
Sanctified, immersed gasp for air

The breath of life, eyes open wide
Absolution washed whiter than the flood
Hearts possessed by pristine love
The halo gleams in sunlight
The machines have lost their sharpened edges
They cower in their frames
And the righteous weep for joyous victory

Author notes

So a few years ago I was baptized but I never really took my faith seriously, mostly because of shame, self-loathing, and a constant disregard for my own personal safety. But recently I've become enlightened and very serious about religion, and it's really created a change in me, one for the better.

I'm not pushing a religios agenda here, I just felt like sharing. And I feel that I should leave this open (if anybody wants to talk about religion or anything, no evangelism, just discussion/debate...just message me).

Thanks for the contest!

God is the ultimate comforter shielding us in his warm grace,

against the cold machinery of manmade sorrows. excellent poem her, I can sympathize having been caught in the gears of a loveless unproductive life several times. ~~Artis

Its not a bad piece, for being religious. I like the inner rhyme scheme. Nicely penned.
