Tread Softly

If you could glance
Down the broken track
Of missing rails and rusted metal
To watch the shadows dancing on the stones
What would they show you?

A pair of footprints in the ash
And a girl living on fading fantasies
I’d be there, waiting
For you to pick up the broken stones you rest on
And make me wish I could do the same

If a child’s shadow
Grabbed your hand
As you went to tread lightly on a smoother path
Asking for something to hold on to
If it were me?

Would you hand me a broken stone
Written on
All the things you showed me
My hopes, my dreams, my tears
If you could cherish them?

If I could glance
Down the broken track
Of unspoken thoughts and dreams woven in the afternoon sun
To watch your shadow dancing on the stones
What would you show me?

I'd like to know how the poem flowed and if it was any good essentially. Thanks!

good questions asked in an entertaining way in this poem, i take it the track is the railroad track.
