Tongue-tied he watches
as she plays carelessly
her lithe, loose limbed running
seems designed to tease him
but all he can do
is smile and watch
hand over hand on monkey bars
then foot in front of foot
on the rope bridge
the other children watch
as she leads the way
confidence personified
sure footed she dances
over the stepping stones
He sits and smiles
sadly proud self justified
in her achievements
she looks up and smiles
it's time to go home
and the best treat of the day
riding home
on Dad's wheelchair.
