Sunlight creeps through windowsills and on to maple floors.
Summer extends her elegant arms, holding on to closing doors.
She clings to curtains, floors and chairs.
She clings to my mirror, she clings to my hair.
[She can’t let go, cannot live her fate.]
Autumn dances in with her head held high, dancing with the trees,
swinging her arms left and right, spreading her colors with ease.
We are surrounded by hues of yellow, deep orange and red.
But soon enough, these colors will be dead.
[Crumpled and buried, colors faded. Isolation - death.]
Falling leaves, falling leaves, beauty around us all,
Summer is leaving, here comes The Fall.
A chill falls down, around cars, kids and lakes,
and Autumn stomps out Summer; her place she takes.
[Now Autumn must suffer the consequences.]
Sunlight drifts away, and Autumn settles in the cold,
with leaves all around her, her body getting old.
She’s tired from dancing, colors not coming with ease,
She’s slowed down now, her body feeling like a disease.
[The time has come...]
Old Man Winter blasts on to the scene,
with a mighty fierce wind, he becomes very mean.
Autumn took out Summer, so she must pay the price
so Old Man Winter gobbles her up, he doesn’t think twice.
He swallows her whole, drenches her in white,
until everything on Earth no longer puts up a fight.
[Deep, deep sleep.]
Old Man Winter settles in, too comfortably,
He thinks he’s won it all, but he doesn’t see
that baby Spring is just around the bend,
and his vicious cold days are at an end.
But little does Spring know, he won’t leave without a fight,
He’ll pour down the snow with all of his might.
[Destruction.]
He drowns out the Earth just once more,
Killing everything – this time, for sure.
But little does he know, when he gives the land to Spring,
that her showering tears of life make the flowers sing!
So she cries her eyes out, until everything is well;
Old Man Winter is gone and so is his spell.
[Beauty]
Spring settles in, but only for a while;
she makes the Earth bloom with her radiant smile.
She melts away the snow by heating up the land,
letting the water shimmer, along with every grain of sand.
But now the time has come for Spring to take her leave,
and let Summer do her work on a warm June eve.

Wow; Sarah this was amazing.
By far, your best write ever!
I mean I love all your writes that I've
read, but this one--just tops it.
Your imagery stands out like a pop-out book
and the emotion you harnessed within
just painted itself a masterpiece.
Your elaborations were amazing
and thoughts- brilliant.
Love how you combined the picture & quote
These lines were just exceptional
"Sunlight drifts away, and Autumn settles in the cold,
with leaves all around her, her body getting old.
She’s tired from dancing, colors not coming with ease,
She’s slowed down now, her body feeling like a disease."
--My fave.
Thanks so much for entering this beauty,
very glad you did & best of luck!
