Again...

Carefully,
meticulously,
I fold each delicate scrap of lace
and cotton
Denim...
And slowly, one by one,
I force them to fit
in a single bag...

I'm leaving (again)
With a cold feeling washing over me.
Deja vu is pulling at me, sucking
me in
To memories best forgotten!
My neck prickles
as i close my eyes...

I smell it;
That scent will forever haunt me.
The sea, and the mud,
the death and destruction left
in the wake,
leaving us nothing but a question:
"WHY?"

Now, as i prepare to leave again...
I wonder if, this time,
I'll have a home to come back to.
If my life will again be left
in ruins!

And this time,
Will i survive the nightmare?

Author notes

This is about last week, when i had to pack my house up to leave for hurricane Gustav. The area i live in is in Southwestern Mississippi, the area which was hit the hardest by Hurricane Katrina (and no, New Orleans was not hit the hardest by Katrina, the eye did not even pass over Louisiana. Their damages were caused by defective levees, not the storm itself.) I was very painful for me to pack again, not knowing if i had a life and a home to come back to. For those of you who have never had to experience this, count your blessings...

Please tell me what you think

I was raised in southern Texas, and hurricanes were our thing so I can somewhat relate to this, although it never gets easy and it still sucks. Mother Nature can really make things chaotic! Nice job!

    My blessings are counted!

I'm pleased I'm English, this reason is one of them! (Although it will not be long before our climate is much like yours, and as it happens, I live on the coast!)

I went to America just in time for Ivan, in Florida. It missed us, but it was still one of the scariest times.
I cannot imagine what it must be like to live through it every year!

I really like this and I understand how you must feel. Though I don't live in areas where hurricans come. Anyhoo I know what you're saying and I hope the hurrican doesn't cause a lot of damage :/ anyway nice write [:

Its touching, but hard for me to grasp. I've never placed value in a permanent home, I love to move. But I can still feel the sadness, and the hints of despair. Not a bad write.
