Lightning so fierce it illuminates the sky (like fire works on New Years Eve)
Frightening claps of thunder I start hear (like a car backfiring ten fold)
Before you arrive in my vicinity
I know that you are near
Dark grey clouds tumble, swirling (like the clothes on spin cycle)
Rain bucketing down (cats and dogs? More like elephants)
The world around me is growing black
There I sit, huddled, on the ground
Storms terrify me
That's the bottom line
I don't care what you do or say
I have to run and hide

This I can really relate to. I have a friend who feels exactly the same way about storms.
An excellent piece and I thank you for sharing your fear for this contest.
