The sky castles hide their moon,
beyond the edges of night forests and their quiet breezes,
where I am a lone and silent traveler
small beneath the trees;
where I wander, awestruck at the sky
and the way the heavens declare the heavenly
with their vast and brilliant cry.
Oh, the soul is pulled by those wide spaces
where the morning makes its earliest strides
yet my soul is trapped down among the grasses,
with these strong and hungering ties.
But I fight the pull – I will always fight –
and seek release from the wayward passions
that so often become my guides;
I wish that it would all be made fully real
and that I would recognize
that power that traps the sun in orbit
and holds the bird in flight.
Of only, if only
I could see through the night.
Author notes
If only we had eyes that could see our paths in the night...oh, then we would walk and run and have no need for fear. But instead, we are left blind, stumbling in an existence that seems to be disturbingly without light.
