Raising my right hand, for family and country
To keep them both safe, and for those who follow me
"I, Garrett Larson, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend..."
Not much to offer, but my loyalty and existance
So that others may live and learn to dance
"the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic..."
I walk with pride and salute the red, white, and blue
Watching as friends die or reality slips, just doing what we do
"that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same..."
Nine years serving and living far away from home
But don't you worry, cause you are never alone
"and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me..."
Because we are here, watching and ever vigilent
Me and my brothers and sisters in arms will never relent
"according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice..."
For when our country is in peril, our freedoms and rights
We will give all so that our children may sleep at night
"So Help Me God!"
Author notes
I am a Staff Seargent in the US Air Force, and though I have not been overseas, I am happy to do my part to keep everyone safe. If doing my part means fighting in the front lines or watching over them here at home, so be it.

I absolutly love your use of the oath of enlistment in this. Intergrating your own poetic flare in between each line perfectly says what ever person is thinking while they raise their hand to take this oath. it is a great peice of work, and I salute you for sharing it. It shows that, Especially in these times where it seems like we don't have any NCO's that really care about their job, or understand why we do what we do, that there is at least one that honors and cherishes his duties. Thank you so much for sharing.

This poem is heartbreaking. I am totally in awe of our
military. You are the ones who give the ultimate sacrifice. Anyone who does not support our troops and what you are doing over there are not a true Americans. My prayers are with all of you and your families. I know how they feel, my father was in Viet Nam. God Bless You All.

First of all and foremost. Thank you for defending and preserving our liberties and rights guareenteed us in our Constitution with life and limb. And I pray your services won't ever be used against us contrary to our Constitution under executive order. Also I'll pray for your safe and sound return to civilian life soon. This is a truely ethical dedicational piece you've scribed.

"For when our country is in peril, our freedoms and rights
We will give all so that our children may sleep at night"
The ending of this was a kick to the stomach; many people who think little of servicemen, will jump to attention at the mention of children ; very well done, and best wishes in the contest

Thank you very much, it's always nice to hear that when there are so many people out there now-a-days that hate the military in general. It makes wearing the uniform that much more worth it to us.
