Forbidden

The temptation of that which is forbidden
Is ungodly and cruel at times.
You beg for it to release you
As you die in your cell,
Having tasted the forbidden fruits.
Other prisoners rake their nails down your back,
Pulling you away from the bars
As the guard cuts into the flesh
Of your fingers as they fiercely grip the metal.
The whip's crack reminds you of your mistakes
And their consequences.
But still you beg for the forgiveness of those around you.
They turn away slowly as your cellmates whisper,
Telling you there's no way you can get out now.
You've ingested what was to be rejected,
Touched what is to be shunned,
Traced the shape of the object you were meant to avoid,
You preached to stay away from.
You became the hypocrite you swore you wouldn't be.
The forbidden cries, the forbidden trust,
The forbidden love, the forbidden lust,
The forbidden embraces and surrounds you
Even when you pushed it away.
You had no choice but to be imprisoned,
And the only one to blame is yourself.
This forbidden action will scar you for life.
The price you pay for bailing out on your old love is your honesty.
The consequence for staying truthful is the loss of your honor.
This is what happens when love crosses paths with glory.

Author notes

'Forbidden' has been on my mind for a while. For some unknown reason, my friends and family have a subconscious way of reminding me of past events...and I refuse to regret the part I played in them.

Ah... so true.. you make me shudder.
I love your images, that of the cell and its inmates, for temptation is such that pulls you closer and closer to curiosity. And the moment you let yourself be bound by its strings, the consequences make you regret the impulse, especially if someone close to you has seen you and doesn't approve.

'This forbidden action will scar you for life.'
Definitely. I have a scar like that.

Your images have been well brought out with the desperate feeling. It's something you want to free yourself from, but can't. Like superglue stuck on your fingers that if you try to remove will rip your skin away. And you don't want that.

As for your author notes, I can understand. It happens that a word they say, or an action someone does, suddenly, somehow, abstractly triggers a memory in your mind that you'd rather forget. Yet, the annoying this is, you've accepted it, but they haven't.

Nicely done. Your background is really good too.
