The Bells,

Missing image
The Bells,

How happy ring the little bells,
the silver bells, the singing bells,
the tiny, tinny, tinkling bells,
the iron bells, the brazen bells,
the hearty, hand-held, ringing bells,
the bells on sleighs, the bells on carts,
the bells that swing on dancing tarts,
the bells that hang on pantalets,
the bells that people tie on pets,
the bells that line the temple eaves,
the bells they drape on Christmas leaves,
the little bells, the happy bells
and yet there is the bell that knells
slow chime to bid our last farewells.

    HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY BELLS

Dearest Hugh, What a very happy poem, except for the last two lines that is, but on the whole I really enjoyed reading "The Bells"
There are so many different kind of bells!

"Oh, the happy bells are ringing in the street
and the happy people dancing look so sweet!
    Lovely poem my dearest Hugh.
    Love Jenny

    Ah, we all hear bells
    as we read your words,
    all conjuring memories.
    Ring, ring, Hugh calling!

Well, Hugh, I listened to them all,
but turned off the sound on the last two lines,
rather listening for the cheerful tones
        of all the other bells!!!

All those happy sounds and the sad one made by the same 'instrument'. We have many churches here, and often I hear bells around 11am, and know that is time to say farewell to someone.

    Dear Hugh,

What a delightful poem, a very lighthearted one that I really enjoyed reading. I love the sound of bells.
I have a Tibetan bell in my meditation room that I often love gong and hear the wonderful tones it has, and that can go on for several minutes with the vibration sounds that keep changing. Thankyou my dear friend for sharing this charming poem with us.
    Love Bea

Reminds me, of course, of Edgar Alan Poe's poem, The Bells. And the situation is interesting in that I just wrote a silly piece about Poe and the Australian poet Banjo Patterson...which will never see the light of Yemassee's page.

Dinner bells, they are the only bells I heed.

They say that when you start hearing bells, you've had too much Moxie...but I think it is just a horrible, tragic, pernicious myth.
