Autumn's Fire

Summer days are numbered as the seasons change once more
and heat gives way to early morning chill,
to watch as noisy squirrels put their harvest into store
is sure to give the viewer such a thrill.

The early morning mist that draws a veil across the lake
evaporates in sunlight’s early rays,
a family of ducks are swimming in the oarsman’s wake
a sight to warm the nippiest of days.

Nature is an artist that can paint the brightest hue
in colours that are sure to please the eye,
russets, golds and browns in starkest contrast to sky blue
horizons that will coax the greatest sigh.

Daylight hours are shorter and the land is cooling down
everything preparing for a rest,
soon Jack Frost will kiss the air of countryside and town
in diamond ice the earth will soon be dressed.

Wrap up warm and venture out, play this season’s games
embrace the air and fill your heart’s desire,
children when they kick the leaves will help to fan the flames
by stirring up the ash of Autumn’s fire.

Very beautiful. I love autumn too. It and the dead of winter are my favorite times of the year. Although, if the winter is too long, spring can seem pretty good too.

    Great job.
