Finding Strength

Missing image

Broken heart bleeding deep within,
lost and lonely when it did begin.
Piercing pain through shattered dreams,
broken down into cries with screams.

Deep in my soul, darkness prevails,
losing a loved one this never fails.
Grieving loss is a breakdown for sure,
sadness of heart, ever so pure.

Processing through, learning to fight,
starting to see some flickering light.
Denial sets in in order to cope,
getting by with a glimmer of hope.

Rocking back and forth from anger to pain,
negotiating with life just to sustain.
Time drifts by day by day,
learning again just how to play.

Accepting life through embracing,
finding new purpose while tracing
every detail, while reminiscing loved one's past,
finding new strength that will eternally last.

My Quote: Negotiating With Life Just To Sustain

Artistic Credit: Is famous artist JoAn Greinert
I chose: OPTION # 16:
"Breakdown to Breakthrough"
By JoAn Greinert

To The Reader,

I personally lost my son just September 16, 2007 at the young age of only twenty-four. Oh it has been so painful and I most definitely haven't arrived through the full process. I'm sure I will always grieve, so it seems, the loss of my precious son, he was my child and way to young. His name is Matthew William Stavron in which much of my poetry is written about. Please be sensitive to the realities of a grieving parent or any person dealing with such a loss. Thank you very much, Kelle Marie.

When I personally looked at the picture you could see the Breakthrough of light shining out from one's Breakdown of heart.
From having a Breakdown of loss for all people there is a process of healing that has to take place in order to reach a breakthrough.
Within my poem there are the 5 stages which one needs to process to get to the point of a Breakthrough.

1. Pain
2. Anger
3. Denial
4. Negotiating
5. Acceptance

Thank you for reading,

Blessings

Kelle Marie Stavron

    This is just beautiful.

Denial sets in in order to cope,
getting by with a glimmer of hope

This line especially is so relatable for anyone reading this work. I can feel the emotion radiating from it. I'm so very sorry for your loss.

    wow!

Now I must say this is simply beautiful beyond words. After reading your author notes I have realized that losing love and picking up the pieces applies to so much more than romantic relationships. I admit that is what I was thinking when I made the contest but this is so refreshing and a wondeful take on the theme! I love this part:

Processing through, learning to fight, starting to see some flickering light.Denial sets in in order to cope, getting by with a glimmer of hope.

I can see the stages you describe clearly as well even before readin your AN. Thanks for enterin and good luck!

  • Beautiful heartfelt write. Keep up the beautiful work. I'm sorry for your loss. I wish you the best of luck in my contest and thank you for entering this piece. I really liked the lines:

"Rocking back and forth from anger to pain,
negotiating with life just to sustain.
Time drifts by day by day,
learning again just how to play."

    What could i possibly

add to all the wonderful comments so many fine folks have already said. A whole lot a heart, more than words alone can say, yet you found a way. What makes poetry, Rhyme or reason? A heart with reason to rhyme with time. All of which you have reached my soul with ,brilliant write.

    Kelle,
Still working on #5, got nothing left to negotiate with. Michael draws much of my attention away, but it's gonna hurt for a while yet. Thanks for your poem- sounds silly, but I like the way you organized it into the process! Made me feel better, that's all.

    Healing!

This is an amazing write that catalogs the process your going through. You articulate the process well.

Love these two stanzas in particular:

    Processing through, learning to fight
starting to see some flickering light.
Denial sets in in order to cope,
just getting by with a glimmer of hope.

Dancing back and forth with anger to pain,
negotiating with life just to sustain.
While time seems to be passing day by day
learning again just how to play.

Your last stanza, that ties everything together so nicely, is an ending to the poem but a declaration of the start of a newness of life! Bravo! Glad you won that trophy!

I'm amazed what you are seeing in these paintings.. I see nothing! But then I read what you've written and it so clearly fits the pictures that it stuns me!

This is such a powerful emotional write.. showing the different aspects of grief that people go through when faced with this... and then the ending being full of strength and hope for the future to be able to find new purpose.

    Beautiful hun!

    Do you?

Hell, I think you pulled it off! Couplets are a confining mistress to be sure. I read some of the comments. I may be a bit dull, but I don't see this as forced or strained? Don't know much about art, but I know what I like- my cliche for the day...

Thank you so much for your very kind comment on my poem. Oh yes there is a lot of emotion in this write, having lost my son this emotion runs very deep withing me so it never seems to fail to come out in my poetry. If you notice within the poem it shows the 5 stages of emotional processing from loss. Pain, Anger, Denial, Negotiating, Acceptance. I was a bit amazed myself that all that was in there.

It did seem to me that in some places the rhyme may have been a little forced, but it was a great poem overall. I especially loved the second stanza. You did an excellent job of portraying emotion.

Although you may feel some of the ryhme was forced, I've read over it a few times and I would have to disagree. Thank you for taking the time to read my poem.
