Birthday

Years older, when time turns faster,
Passing by quicker with each passing day,
The days flash by, getting ever quicker,
Side effect of the birthday pill, age.

Age brings experience, wisdom and pain,
As the mirror gains wrinkles around the brow,
The mind becomes greater, a vast domain,
Growing from the seed that years ago was sewn.

Youth is gained by those who think young,
Who disregard age as a biased opinion page,
Those who with young minds leave age hung
up, that horrible thing called age.

A birthday is an anniversary of when one was born,
Cherish it, even as its memory fades away,
A birthday, a holiday that should never be scorned,
For with birth comes death, at a later date.

Happy birthday to you, let age subside,
Let out your inner child, let her play,
Together, youthful minds grab bikes and ride,
While older selves find youthful banter to say.

    You are so right in all you say here and thanks millions for this lovely birthday poem which has moved me so much.
    You are so kind.
    I intend to stay a trainee geriatric juvenile delinquent and grow old totally disgracefully so that age won't catch me up until I am well gone to my wooden overcoat! Meanwhile I will make senility an excuse to misbehave and retain my inner child and eternal youth, and as long as I have a sense of humour I will make it since humour and love together form the elixir of life and eternal anti-ageing!
    Thanks Millions you are so lovely to pen this for my birthday and I am moved and touched.

    Fabulous!! How very true also, you are wise for one so young!! (did that just sound like Yoda? )

    Age is just a number.. I have to say that as I'm 38 soon lol
