Darkness spreads throughout
A blackened abyss consumes the land
Lie no longer
The wait is over
The war has commenced
Death and destruction
People hope and they pray
No more fear
Feel it on your skin
Heat of fire
Of the destruction
Carnage of humanity falls all around
I don't wat to feel anymore
To breathe anymore
In this time of strife
Save us
Can love see us through
Through the death?
Fire rains from the skies
A faint light in the darkness
Death spreads on both sides
Debris litters the land
The people look to the skies
Blackened heavens holds no hope
Greiving for you
Died in the fight
I breathe without you
Unwilling to live
Damn the wars
Taken from me
Smoke clogs the air
Ash takes color from all
Sunless days and moonless nights
War continues
Never ending
A halocaust to the land
I'm calling for you in the dark
No matter what they told you
Come back to me
Stand beside me
Take me from the place
Save me from this land
Lord of war slays the opposing
Leaving no one alive
Soldiers are left where they fall
To become part of the wounded earth
Loved ones mourn
As war moves on
I fall to my knees
Within the battle field
Tears in the ash

There is such a strong aura of sadness and pain infused in the words here. This certainly pulls on the emotions. Best of luck to you in the contest. I appreciate your taking the time and making the effort to enter. I hope it proved to be an enjoyable experience and challenge for you.
