Throughout days or nights of thought, while sleeping or awake
there are those special people who through your memories will creep
Sweethearts of the past --- or now; a parent, child or spouse
will suddenly enter into a thought or dream, and startle you or bring a smile.
For me, in past years and even now it has been the man who wore khaki;
always khaki pants, hat to match, and sometimes even a shirt or jacket.
Yes, the man with the rare, quick smile, who taught me what mattered in life
and stayed somewhere to be certain the lessons were always remembered.
“Stand up straight,” “Hold the door open for a lady,” “Remember your manners say, ’Yes and No Sir and Ma’am,’,” were only a few of the things told to me.
How to hold a fishing rod, hammer and saw; the way to read the newspaper
and listen to a baseball game on the radio, all were things I still can recall.
When I go to dinner and pull out a chair --- he is there watching, nodding
and sometimes when I cast a lure in just the right spot --- his hand is there.
Oh, how I miss that man in the khakis, my guide as a child --- a shelter
but somehow when I feel the most alone, granddaddy knows and appears.

My pappa Houser wore Kaki shirt and pants and a belt. Not like the other farmers. I loved this I can see him perfectly.

Memories of our past, the people that touched our lives or even the ones now that do that..we never forget them no matter where we go, they seem to be in our minds the entire time. I can relate to that in many ways..
to me it sounds like your grandfather seems to appear when you need him the most, but who knows he maybe there the entire time..good memories, hang onto them, never let them go.
I enjoyed reading this, it was really nice to learn more about you and your past.
I do have a question though. so I'll IM with it..
good luck in the contest
