After "Mom's Home Cooking"

Imagination and insight ...
perspective and poise ...
he deals in wry, real delight.
Words are truly his fondest toys.

He shakes them up in a cup,
and tosses them out on the page.
You savor his best when you sup,
and taste the aroma of "sage".

Wise, indeed, is this parvenu,
whose wisdom is drawn from the ages.
He can fashion a sonnet ... or "ku";
but he's never bound by form's cages.

Many elderly people are fools;
sometimes the young may prove wise.
His sentences shimmer like jewels,
and sagacity conveys bold surprise.

My advice to you, dear reader,
is to remember "Mom's home cooking".
Whether, counselor, peon, or leader,
he's the poet for whom you are looking.

Author notes

Not up to writing much these days, but I reread the poem, and spewed this out. (With apologies to the poet.)

    Hood-Winked!

This is a beautiful poem - I really like the rhyme and the rhythm - a lovely dedication the imagery of the shaking words in a cup was really well crafted and I really liked the allusion to childhood playfulness wonderfully done!

    Keep writing

    Hood Winked!

Love this! Nice content, flow, rhyme & timing! I'm surprised you didn't win a trophy. I'm definitely going to have to look up who this poem's about 'cause this is a wonderful tribute! This kind of praise from a poet of your obvious talent says a lot about whom your touting. I learned a new word today & enjoyed a fine write! Yippee!

      The new word was:

Parvenu! I love words. I've been writing since the age of seven after I read 'On Walden's Pond' in secret & was so delighted & amazed to learn that people were writing about things I contemplated! Thanks for many fine introductions! Took a listen to that Radio Station you gave a link for & heard something similar to what I was intending to do with some 'Word Speak' I'm planing to record! You are a treasure here at AP!

*Grins* The title is a tribute in itself, and I loved it!

'he deals in wry, real delight.
Words are his true, fondest toys.'

I always enjoy your poems and this is CERTAINLY no exception. Your eloquent rhyme is simply gorgeous. I also have a fondness for the word 'wry.'

'He shakes them up in a cup,
and tosses them out on the page.'

    A wonderful image and metaphor!

'You savor his best when you sup,
and taste the aroma of "sage".'

excellent twist and play on the word 'sage'

'parvenu...ku' was rather clever I thought!

    'His sentences shimmer like jewels,
    and sagacity conveys bold surprise.'

*blushes deeply* very beautiful and thank you for such an honor!

A lovely end and I thank you for taking the time to write this!

I'm not acquainted with this author's works. But can and have enjoyed yours. This wonderfully versed piece is no exception. The author you pay tribute must be real and a gem for these lines so fine to honor him. I'm sure he appreciates this.
