Shakespeare & Co.

Missing image
The Beats were there and George
knew them all, well, I hear.
The little rag and bone shop of the heart
still beats along the Rue de la Būcherie
where the Seine flows past
the green wooden box o' book vendors
of the Left Bank.

I found a postcard Friday
of that very scene
when I was at Candy's
- Paris postmark -
and thought of you
though we were too late
and sentenced to beat
a path of retreat.

Really enjoyed the historical account of your reading at Shakespeare's and Co. on Flickr. Hope you have more of those crosslinks to discover.

Oh, so cool you have walked the same places as them, and you know them well which is shown within your poem!

The Beats were there - well, you certain drew right in with this beginning and I enjoyed the quote from Yeats. Like that travelling feeling you have shared here.

This reads racy and exciting; the pace, the words everything. The link, that make my spine tingle.
