Mentioned in the morning news

Two lovers lay on the sand by the sea
No worries had they, they were truly free
Heartbroken they felt that awful night
When they swam towards an etheral light
Energy gone, the light getting dim
Loud screaming pain in every limb
When that light faded in ocean mist
They sighed, relaxed and passionately kissed
Their angels came quietly, no sound was heard
And the uncaring ocean never stirred
No shouts, no beating of fist on breast
No one checking their empty nest
Two bodies found in the morning grey
A tragic start to brand new day

Author notes

This poem was triggered by a fifteen second mention on the radio that a body had been found on a beach. "Investigations are continuing"

Thank you my friend, I was a little peeved on that morning as to the apparently callous attitude of the newsreader. I think we are all a little desensitised to the everyday tragedies simply beause they are everyday.

I will never cease being amazed at the radio newsreaders. They talk about a trajedy with the same tone of voice as they talk about the wild shenannigans of some celebrity having a wild night out. I suppose they are just doing their job. Its a shame that we are so desensitised to trajedy these days. many thanks for your supportive comments. I just thought I should highlight one of the many tragedies that occur every day.

this is such a sad poem. I don't think i could think of anything worse than drowning. You wrote this so well, and from a brief news report. That wasn't the girl that was found, was it, Bob. Yes, the ocean can be deadly and like you said, has no sympathy to spare. Unfortunate that a lot of poems come about because of tragedies and bad luck, but life revolves around them as well as the good. Excellent job.

We have all been desensitised by the media with their constant reporting of sensational events only. Shame, really, as we all need feelings and emotions.

This was beautiful. It really made me think and I appreciate that.
I can't believe something like that was announced and over with in a matter of seconds. It's a little sickening.

It is a sad state of affairs that we are so desensitised to tragedy. The Tv news has a lot to answer for when the antics of some celebrity has more news value than tragic deaths. Such is life. I appreciate your kind comments, thank you for taking the time.

It always seems so sad that newsreaders use the same clear, well enunciated voice to read about the untimely death of some unknown washed up on a beach as they do for the stupid antics of some socialite. Such is life. Thanks for your encourageing words.

Damn good one Bob there's a bit of a "tear jerker" in your soul after all. Happy trails

We all have a bit of a 'tear jerker' in us, life is like that. I prefer not to write 'deep' poetry as the news provides enough misery for me. I was mad about the 15 second mention a body washed up on a beach received. Does no one in the media care? or are they simply de-sensitised?

I echo your concerns re the concern over whether we as a society are becoming desensitized to tragedy, the deaths of anonymous lost souls are barely given breath and yet the media sensationalize some occurence within the life of a celebrity and find more than enough air time to cover something as shallow as an actress maybe having had to much drink oops I don't mean the actress is shallow simply that its surely not newsworthy when we have so many other newsworthy things of more importance.

It is indeed a sad state of the world if we are really desensitised to tragedy's such as this one. Like you I find the most trivial un-newsworthy junk gets the most air time. Pathetic, isn't it? However, I do appreciate your comments. There are probably a lot like us who do care and can do nothing.

You are very welcome and I echo your thoughts, I am sure there are many others who are as concerened but, as with many concerns, there seems to be little that we are able to do to change the status quo as basically it boils down to money. A lot of the junk we hear on the news and read in the papers is actually put out by the PA's and agents of stars/celebrities.

How true, and money speaks all languages, addresses all cultures and is a necessity of life for all peoples. Shame it isn't used to better advantage.

The really sad part is that such happenings only ratea fifteen second mention on the radio news. Are we all so conditioned to tragedy that we don't care any more.
I thank you for your response to my poem.

    I like it!
    The ocean is so big
    but is it “unfeeling,”
    or is it serenely indifferent?
We’re limited not by our minds
but by our ability to see ourselves
    in the eyes of children.
    At sunrise
    children want a story
    to start the day!

We are all children. It would be a magic feeling to get a warm fuzzy feeling from the morning news instead of the doom, gloom and sensationalism that is thrust at us every single day. I appreciate your taking the time to comment.
It gives me encouragement to continue writing.
