Fascinating World

The world fascinates me.
If only you could see.
When I look up at the moon and stars in the sky,
I think of how people live their lives and I wonder why.

There's so much beauty in the stars. So much still unknown.
Whenever I'm reading about the universe, I never feel alone.
There are so many beautiful forests that are getting cut down as we speak.
So many children going hungry and growing weak.

It fascinates me how ancient the planet is.
Sometimes I feel like if I close my eyes there will be something I will miss.
I am intrigued by the pyramids of Egypt and the Sphinx.
It fascinates me that with all our science, we still have a missing link.

It fascinates me when I see that after so many generations we still fight wars.
I wonder what are we fighting for?
You may see the world differently than me.
But, I hope you understand how the world fascinates me.

Author notes

I had this poem posted on my page a couple years ago for a contest. I decided to post it back up here because I looked at it again and it's one of my favorites. As always, I welcome your thoughts.

    Hoodwinked!

The repetition of "it fascinates me" is a little unnecessary
The rest of the piece is thought provoking and effective.

one could do him or herself a disservice
    by becoming desensitized-complacent

Thanks, Desire. Hadn't really thought of the poem as having a beat, but it's kind of cool to hear what other people see in the poem.

Doesn't the world fascinate us all?

      Thanks for reading.

I understand- I like the questions you pose here, the thoughts I imagine shared world wide by a million hopeful dreamers who appreciate what an amazing gift just being here is, who feel so sad that mankind as a whole squanders the opportunities for spiritual gain, in favour of commercial and violent gain. Great write.

Thanks so much. Yeah, I think it is something that a lot of people dream about and hope for the world, to make it a better place. I think the unfortunate thing is from what I've seen in my experience people would like to do something for the world, but they don't really believe they can do it. I, on the other hand believe that anything is possible if you have that will to succeed. I appreciate the comment.

That's a great question, William. It is very true that people could use knowledge for their advantage and for the well being of the world's disadvantage. Kind of like how Einstein's theory of relativity was used by the military to create the atomic bomb. There is always a risk when it comes to finding answers, I think it depends on how individuals plan to use the information once they find the answers. If you're interested I also wrote a Geniocracy poem quite awhile ago that dealt with the concept of a one world government and about the military and the war. I can't remember whether you've read it yet or not, if you have I'm sorry. I have been busy with school and haven't kept up with allpoetry during the week a whole lot. I always appreciate your support of my work. Have a great weekend.

      Thanks so much.

Yeah, the last stanza does have a few sad reflections. You'd think that after so many generations that people would be able to live together in peace and harmony. I appreciate the comment.

This is such a cool poem! It flows very nicely and I like that you repeat the phrase "It fascinates me".. it gives it emphasis and rhythm. You write about the most interesting stuff, it really makes me think! Nice work!

I can see why it's one of your favorites. You write about the imagery of science better than anyone else I know. In this poem you share your thirst for knowledge and you do it in rhyming verse. Bravo!

    Love,

Thanks, Buddy. I'm never sure about older poems. For some reason if a couple years have passed, I won't think a poem is as good anymore. Glad you enjoyed it, though. Makes me feel it was worth posting again.
