Tentacle Hugs

A choreographed night in bed
Tossing and turning until the sheet
Is only a sweat soaked knot
Tied haphazard to my feet
The whir of the air conditioner
Embraces me like an old friend
Floating all the way from back home
Breaking my heart again and again.

Fourteen days of twisting roads
Climbing up hills that lead to
Uncharted territories and beyond
Diving into a sea of fish and I
Tend to get swept with the current
Tossing you and throwing you through
Vibrant coral reefs and past Octopus gardens
And the camoflauge of their ink won't help you

But it won't hurt.

A tentacle embrace and we're off
Hard to keep up with her as she jets
Past everyone, knowing exactly where she is
No matter how many twists, tosses, turns, regrets
I bet she's even comfortable in her Octopus bed
Floating softly in the corner, a cool current all her own
Her tentacles are intrusive and all knowing
She hears my fears and silent moans

Author notes

About being in this big scary place and the older people who you want to befriend and they want to befriend you, it's just hard, because they know their way. And they can read exactly how you feel....
