Cold winds of mortality ruffle feathers
Raindrops disavow salt silver tears
On hard cold marble.
Sixty-two summers watching over Henry
Through joy and anguish
Offering sweet silent syllables of hope.
Keeping the darkness at bay
Protective and non judgemental
Treading lightly, an immortal presence
...Never seen but sometimes sensed.
Author notes
I’m afraid the head stone is far from simple but I rather liked the sculpture of the angel. His full name is George Henry March but he was known as Henry. He rests in the old village churchyard at Farnborough Kent.
