Boulevard Bum

Out on the sidewalk saying "I'd never do it!"

Chewing tobacca but no teeth to chew it

Trying to live above handouts and PTS,

Girlfriend took my truck and ran

You talk about stress!

It's not my nature to sit out with this sign

We fought a war you made us fight

Now you're life's on the line!

Pay up or go down burecrats

You'll be out the back door this time!

Author notes

Nam Vets and the plight of some is a big issue as far as I am concerned. Even though I am a Canadian, and we have our veterans from wars, the poem is to do with this issue. One's close to me have this problem to face. Where is the help from Washington for assistance as now the veterans need help...How about reciprocating! A matter close to all our hearts!

yeah it has been a long time

since the Viet-nam war ended and most have long forgotten the vets of that war and the war..... all but the guys who fought and lived it. Thios was good but not really on the humorous side.

thanks for your entry and good luck in the contest

Having fighting over there I know from first hand experince the hard times the vets had coming home. Have seen people spit on us, cuss us out. Many suffer from the pain of being over there and the government still to this day does not fully reinburse the vets the way they should. We were fighting for our country just like any other vetern. Thanks for writing this piece for us.

AMEN! The help our government gives them is nothing compared to the sacrifice they gave. We should be ashamed.

    Another nice one!

Nice little rhymed poem, Rose! Great subject and many of those Nam era Vets do have it very rough! This is certainly sympathetic to their plight and cause! I thin the poem's rhythm and rhymes help this short form out very nicely! You have done very well on short notice with this one. I like it -- it rings in my ears and plays a message for many sad silent folks!
