Things worked out just right for me
When I heard the athaan
I changed religion, chose a life
Just prior to Ramadaan
I never knew quite what to do
But things fell into place
Put on my scarf, changed all my clothes
Such "noor" (light)upon my face
The night before the first fast
Muslims came with food to share
I felt the family atmosphere
The warmth, the love, the care
And then the morning wake up call
To eat was my main aim
Excitement as i knew all Muslims
Were doing just the same
The next day was a Saturday
The week-end took its toll
My first fast headache, sleepy eyes
But I stuck to every goal
As days went by and weeks rolled on
A humbleness prevailed
The fast made me more God fearing
Made sure i never failed
And by the time the final fast
Was peeping round the bend
A sadness came upon me
I did not want it to end
The atmosphere surrounding EID
Electric, joyous, fun
The end of an auspicious month
When God revealed Quraan
I learnt so much in just one month
I did the best i could
This is the time for giving
And submission - make things good
I have been Muslim 10 years now
And this is my 10th fast
May Allah bless those all around
Fulfilling this one task
