Coming round again September?
Like an old acquaintance
loved, but not without your faults.
You bring the special gift
of harvest - time,
and promise of a blaze of colour
splashed on leafy lanes
and countryside. September;
back to school and goodbye
to the long, warm days of summer.
Thoughts of winter's ravages return.
You lead the way to darker days
of cosy fire-side chats
and warm companionship.
You have a beauty all your own
like ripened peaches,
soft and subtle with
a velvet sunset glow.
Coming round again September?
Welcome back old friend.

This is such a vivid, pleasant poem--I just love this. You have noted mostly all the things I love about this month.
I am tickled to see it in the contest, and so happy you shared this so I could read it on my birthday
