Drowning My Sorrows

I drank whisky to drown all of my pain
Walked home from the pub in soaking rain
Must stay in bed for the next day or two
'Cause I'm sick as a dog from the 'flu.
Well, the pain is still there, i'll have you know
Whisky don't help to make it all go
It's been a lot longer than I could forsee
So, painful it just has to be.

I haven't done it for a great many years now. It's just not worth the effort. It doesn't work anyway.

I have been there and have overcome the problems I had at that time. The scars are character builders and I would not be the tough old bugger I am now without them. It is possible to live and love again. Think positive. I appreciate you kind comments.

I've been there many times before. It's written in the wrinkles that surround my eyes. Good write and happy trails

It never did work the magic it was supposed to. Just gave me a dried out headache.

Drinking whiskey to try and drown sorrow may cause a warm fuzzy interlude but here is a warning sadly the sorrow will swim again inside the head come the next morning...

They say a hot toddy helps with the 'flu though

The morning after, and the pain is even worse, perhaps because of the hangover. This sort of thing has no place in my present life, but in the distant and obscure past there was a time when I tried it out. It didn't work.
Hot toddy's are still a good way of getting a good nights sleep when you are miserable with the Flu. There are no repercussions next day either. Thanks Yvette.

No. I haven't been there, but i know exactly what you are saying as i have seen others go there. Funny, i have the flu at the moment. This was a neat little poem that made me smile. Why i don't know because it wasn't actually funny.I have seen suffering cause people to take this road. I suppose there was something there that called my humour forth. This poem is a varying difference on your other poems, Bob. I liked it very much but am trying to picture where it sits in your scene.

this sort of thing doesn't fit anywhere in my scene today but way back in the distant past when I had a very heartbreaking experience, it had a place for a short time.
I'm not sure what triggered it but, something did. I am pleased you liked the poem, regardless of its content.

Oh the head and then even the body achs. The flu? Good excuse there Bob. It just might be that rot gut whiskey got to you. Hell even the good stuff does me in now. Smiling here.

These days just one small beer is enough to put me to sleep. *snore*. I have a memory of another bloke in another life who managed a 40 oz bottle of good scotch in one night and went to work at 5,30 am next day. I still have the memory.
