Autumn Song

Canada geese fly by,
honking like I’m in the way,
and I softly realize,
summer is slipping away.

Fire maples lost their leaves,
one of the first you know,
and the squirrels are so aggressive,
in the way they put on a show.

Dew is as heavy as a rainfall,
as silence slowly fills the skies,
the birds are flying away,
there is a sadness in my eyes.

Cold winds blow of warning,
as the season slips into the past,
though ever so wishful,
I never expected it to last.

You will come around once more,
to grace this weary mind,
with all the songs of life,
that all of nature sings so kind.

Author notes

I just heard a flock of geese fly overhead.

Well I think this is a very good poem for being inspired by a flock of geese! I think it could've had a bit more description, but the rhyme and flow were right on! Thank you for entering my contest and congradulations on staying in it!

I miss these sights and sounds when autumn fills the air. I used to live in Michigan. I remember flocks of birds flying south. Sometimes large groups of them. I miss the crispness in the air. Thanks for sharing this with us here on AP... Katie
