Drop of sweat brought on by fear
My heart pounds in my chest
Rattling my rib cage
There are shadows on the walls that cannot be
Whispers in my ear that bring memories
Of Pain
Of regret
Footsteps taunt my solid stance
If I close my eyes I can see them
Remember their faces to the last freckle
In this place, rebuilt
Once destroyed
I am a child again
Listening to their laughs and their screams
"Come with us," they whisper
"Where were you?"
I smile softly at the innocence lost
I should stay
Should have stayed
And now I will never leave them again
"I'm coming"
Author notes
A church that worked as a school burned down once...some kids never made it out. They built a new church right over the old one. I don't know if I'll be able to forgive them for that.
