Who Can I Trust?

I have a very warped view of one word

Trust.

those who were supposed to give it
...unconditionally
often did the opposite
in vital years for me

learning how to decipher lies
can have devastating effects
eventually twisting and turning
till its grows into a complex

these people are supposed to take care of you
so obviously you can trust them...
you can trust them...
YOU CAN TRUST THEM...
right?

if you can't trust them, who can you trust
who can I trust?

will you abandon me if I love you
will you hurt me if I let you
will you deceive me if I trust you
who can I trust?

Author notes

I have a problem with trust because of early abuse from my father and being deceived by various people that were supposed to help or protect me.

I have issues with trust also, because of my ex-boyfriend used to be abusive towards me. And my father was just never there, still isnt.
I feel for this i really do. There is no reason for somebody to go through that especially when they are children growing up.
This write really shook me to the core when i read this.

Beautiful write here, shook me to the ground and could have sworn that the words were jumping off pages when I read this, i was almost expecting an earthquake.
Good job. And congrates on the honorable mention.

This is so sad and I am sorry this was your experience growing up. Too many of us are betrayed by those who are supposed to protect us. This is the most difficult thing to work through. But it is so important to work through the pain for ourselves, so that we can learn to trust those who are worthy of our trust. There can be no true connection with others without trust, and this hurts us even more in the end. You did a great job with this poem, and I like the way you set it up. Thanks so much for entering my contest. Blessings, Patty
