You wear the opp shop clothing
and thought you're just a church mouse,
begging for those tidbits
to get you through each day.
That's when the stance becomes grandiose
in puffed up self importance,
for designer labels judge your worth
in ceremonious pretention.
Inherited wealth has inflated affectation
acknowledgement of worthy toil disregarded,
as pontificating words rain down
to keep the masses in their place.
For upon history's stage perch the bombastic
class closed to impudents,
stuffed into sackcloth and ashes
to build an inflated ego.
But enlightenment is coming of age
overblown egos often ignored,
seen in humourous ignorance
and walls of unawareness are bypassed.

I liked your take on the prompt. 'sackcloth and ashes' in juxtaposition to 'bombastic class closed to impudents'. Very unusual poetry, and I thank you for sharing it.
