Like Buttah

Missing image
Butter swaggers across the coarse surface
of hot, morning toast
until its suave yellow oozes deep into the
ever-crumbling dryness
changing its consistency, taste, aroma,
making it palpable once again

one slice at a time.

And it’s a good thing, too, ‘cause
breakfast is full of injustice.

Its no wonder perfectly good eggs
crack before their time.
Equal distribution of cheese, it seems,
is still just dawning rhetoric,
and the scrambled get the lion’s share
just because they always have.
Hello, this IS the twenty-first century,
people! The quiche have plenty to spare.

And could there be any greater wickedness
than sending perfectly crunchy granola bits
to their certain demise, where at best
they grow weak
from their too-long milky deployment?
Has no one ever heard of trail-mix?
There are far better uses for crunchy oats
than drowning their innocence in the mirk of milk!
And to what end?  Just so the fat can grow fatter
in full hu-granitarian façade. Typical.

And what of sausage?  Why has its delicious offering
been limited to morning?  Does not its curve and spice
supply an equally hearty contribution of needed proteins
and flavor? Yet bacon takes all the good breakfasts first,
plus gets reserved for sandwiches
and salad topping to boot. Inconceivable in this day and age!
And by the way,
the occasional prominent placement of a sausage pattie
on a biscuit
or token English muffin, is seen for just what it is--
appeasement, not equal opportunity.

And while I’m good and fired up,
who says we need all this extra pulp in orange juice?
Its just another prime example
of drilling down into the have-not’s pockets
stealing resources from other oranges
just so the haves can have ore,
I mean more.

Don’t blame me for ranting.
This impeccable awareness came from a friend.

Breakfast blights will bruise the world,
but he heralds these causes, rallying
others to reach across the table
until his words dissolve into thinking,
revealing truth at every other peak,
seasoning life
and spreading quiet wisdom. . .

like buttah.

So, it’s all his fault.

Sunny side up! With no ham included!

Money mouthAs a professional chef, I really humorous, and inspiring. Great use of language, and a really wonderful fired up rant on a very light hearted subject! Oh, and just to let you know, I most often eat breakfast for dinner. Hate coooking it for others though! Did you know the average customer is actually pickier about their eggs than they would be about a nice porterhouse?

    Ridiculous!

This was just yummy! Great descriptives, multi-sensory involvement in this satisfying offering!

Absolutely love "And it's a good thing too, 'cause breakfast is full of injustice!" Reminds me of frigid winter floors and wearing a blanket to accompany Grandma to light the fire in the kitchen stove.
I have often wondered myself, "Has no one ever heard of trail-mix?"
Excellent "token English muffin is seen for just what it is--appeasement, not equal opportunity."
Very nice "spreading quiet wisdom...like buttah."
Lots of fun, and I enjoyed your punnery

After reading this I got very hungry for something really fattening!
This is funny and deliciously evil, and could be applied not only for breakfast but to society too.
Very creative poem and made me think of some of PK's politics rants
