Battlegrounds now shaky
flames of fire are thrown
sounds of popping soaring
another round is blown
One by one they’re stripped
a soldier lies there dying
with picture clamped to chest
A lover is now weeping
and children wonder why
daddy has now gone away
and mother can only cry
Our flag drapes the coffin neatly
family and friends will mourn
He has died with all the honor
a soldier could have worn
As the eulogy’s being read
his companion loses all
Sorrow’s dancing in her head
to his side she falls.
Her tears stain the coffins rail
the officers can’t break her free
Tiny hands are embracing her
as her heart faces misery
Guns are sounding off
another eleven to go
Skies are collecting remnants
of memories that will help them grow
One final kiss upon his wedding band
a gentle peace now comforts her
A man of such honor and glory
a true life warrior
Rising up with kids in tow
she stands beside him now
Reminiscing of the past
she’ll make it out somehow
Departing the service
her eyes are on her children
A smile that hints their face,
makes the rest of life worth livin.’
