Shut up and die!
Words:
distant reminders of remorse
brandished like hot steel;
jettisoned drops of contempt
fueling ice-cold-coals of
hope.
"Momma's boy. Big boy. Baby boy."
Terms of endearment.
Strangers you and me
with names:
whimp. indifferent. cold.
cheap. dull. boring. ignorant;
hateful, spiteful names
sediment of our love:
scathing exchanges
glazed-over sarcasms.
Civility:
camouflage for hatred
disguising our vows to
honor and obey 'till death
do we...
Jargon:
unlistened to corpses
passing each other along
dingy corridors
vacant, dead eyes eyeballing
from corners of lifeless pulpits
Shut up!
words damning each other
with the finger-of-contempt.
Left-over smiles; hit-and-run
kisses; tolerated touches...
barely.
Luke-warm piss--ants
scurrying to catch the
ghost of lost tomorrows.
Bilge:
Poisoned waters; toxins
adrift upon wails and words
and "wish you were here"
lies.
Toilet-stained porcelain
smells of dying flesh
half-empty coffee cups
timeless time capturing
captives who hold each one
in bondage; our self-made
hatred.
Anger:
re-cycled placebo. foreplay
for sex.
Periphery:
contradiction. ugliness.
egos collide like dodgem
cars at the Fairgrounds--
bludgeoning, demeaning
careening
into the ribs of remembrance.
War-games:
what we play to appease our
minds.
Hypocrites:
machines robotically speaking
of love...life, scars, sores,
caked-over scabs.
Why?
Because...we l o v e
to hate or is it
that we hate in order to
l o v e, to feel alive...
Did I ever l o v e you? or
just the idea of love.
What's become
our epithet to love:
name-calling,
contradictions,
cell-phone hostility
foreplay, self-justification
ice-tea memories
Oh holy god...
can't we just
shut up! just shut
the f___ up...
but we prefer
our chosen form
of suffering:
annihilation
and
crucifixion.

woah. this is very powerful. i loved the originality of the structure in this piece- very thought provoking.
i love the take on the prompt. the stanza breakdown was detailed, precise, and i loved it. your word choice was great!
only thing is: i think the ending could have been much more powerful. i was disappointed with the ending lines, i expected something sharper.
other than that, this was perfect.
great job.
