under protest cries she wakes
stretch forced and incomplete
groans call out from her lips
under covers in retreat
shower, brush, makup, outfit
too many choices, what a pain
papers sorted, backpack full
tweak the hair and pray no rain
check shoes, do they match?
coordinate or fashion death
moving slowly toward the door
mumbled grumbles under breath
Dad looks on, what's all the fuss?
hurry up here comes your bus

i remember crazy schooldays--->
the years i was in europe were the worst for school days... we (my sister and i) had to always wake up at 4am so that we could walk across town and catch our bus at 5am because it took two hours or more to get from there to school. we lived in a little german town called hemmingen and the bus had to travel all over the place picking up american kids to get us to highschool/junior high by 730am... it really sucked because after all that driving time we still had a full day of school in ludwigsburg and then had to catch a bus back that took a few more hours... we had one time we were stuck on the side of a mountain in a snowstorm for 14hrs just outside of our town waiting for plows to come and clear the way for us to get home. that was lots of fun, umm not... i think it was harder on the girls then.( at least the boys-me- could go out and pee if we needed to. the girls had to do the same and kinda hide beside the bus to do it.) looking back, i think it must have really sucked for them in the middle of a blizzard to do such a simple thing...
i know it sounds crazy, but that is real...
i like this poem because you do nail it right on the head with the transistion from protests and groans of having to wake to the forced shuffle of getting dressed and making sure you have all your papers packed into your bag.
i remember only too well.
peace to you darkwell

This is a well penned take on those first day stresses that seem to come. It may have been moons ago, but boy do I remember that dreaded 'going back' feeling. New teachers, new people, more issues, more homework lol. Nicely penned!!!

LOL! This is fantastic, I can so totally picture this is in my mind, and I'm so greatful that I never had to worry about co-ordinating outfits at school, since I had to wear a uniform. As always your lines and rhyme flow beautifull together, thanks for sharing this, and all the best in the contest,
