so precious are all souls.
The sad robbing of lives
was a desperate mans cry.
was he empty inside?
Had he no hope to thrive?
Murdering innocent unknowns,
the self governed choice,
of one hopelessly impatient.
The murders and outcries,
in the news they go. But-
when thrills wear off
they hit the road.
Now all are forgotten,
along with that desperate man.
Really this world has no hope.
The days progressively worsen
fears grow along with hatred.
He was wrong to do it.
Were we wrong-
to let it happen?
Author notes
This is about both the Columbine and virginia tech, but it's written as being about Virginia tech. It cuts down on wordiness this way.
It isn't just schools this happens in, happens in malls, and parks etc.
It happens when there's a large crowd of unsuspecting people.
9/11 is the same thing. But yeah, likely power hunger was more involved there than anything else.

This is very sad. It really captures the pain that so many of us felt learning about the shootings. And in the end it expresses the guilt too, the wondering if the tragedy could have been prevented. I especially like:
Murdering innocent unknowns,
the self governed choice,
of one hopelessly impatient.
This is a powerful poem. Best of luck in the contest. -
This is an interesting perspective too, especially your understanding of how the media mentions it and then forgets...very nice! Good luck in contest!
