Her husband sent her away to visit you family
he said she needed a break, Some time alone
their relationship had been strained for years
first from his infidelities early in their marriage
to her depression and anger
to just the hardships of life
they were both just trying to hang on
trying to ride it through
hoping things would change
maybe it was the timing,
but she felt he was throwing her away
get her out of the house the ask her not to come back
She realized on the way home from mom and dads
would be passing through the town where she grew up
she felt she should stop and see her brother spend a day or two
as she planned her trip she smiled for she knew
a special friend high school still live right there in town
it would be nice to see him catch up on all the years
so she told him of her plans and when she would be in town
they made plans to go to lunch and try to catch up
The day had come she wanted to look nice
it had been twenty-five years since she had seen him
she never thought she was pretty but he always had
nervously she waited then there was a knock upon the door
shaking she answered it, there he stood
the one she secretly dreamed about
are you ready he asked, she could only shake her head
she was afraid to speak for her voice would shake
as she closed the door behind her he offered her his arm
still the gentleman she thought as he opened the door for her
They went to Wendy’s to get a bite to eat
then to the park to continue to catch up
they held hands and talked about high school
and the time they were together
she fought back tears cause she wanted to be his
she turned and look at him then leaned forward and gave him a kiss
it was only going to be a quick one but he put his arms around her
and pulled her close to him and kissed her deep and long
it was obvious that they still loved each other
Temptation sure ran high, she wasn't sure she could be good
the even joked about getting a hotel room
forgetting everyone else just some time for them
but no they couldn’t do that to the ones they loved
so he took her back to her brothers
before they changed their minds
Another five years passed
many changes in both their lives
before they found themselves alone
face to face
hand in hand
this time there was nothing to hold them back
except their love and respect for each other
no way to make up for lost time
no need to rush they have their lives before them
so slowly they begin
again
with a kiss
