My Summer Was Not Quite Over

When last sailing from Newport Harbor, I could not leave

the bay, without noticing the comings and goings of all

the beautiful offshore birds that God gave us. With my young

daughter, little dog and younger brother along I knew

this was going to be a memorable day. I prayed this fine day

should never end, since we all had to go back to work

or our jobs very soon.

As we left the channel mouth, then approached the risings

and fallings of the sea, we were simply excited and

delighted. What invigoration to be heading out to sea, to

feel the wind-sheer, to find beauty, quietude,

and peace. Without the workaday world to cope with,

summer almost over, we just had to enjoy our end of season

day of saltwater and clear, clean smelling air.

With dolphins, whales and water craft coming upon us, we

were lifted from the reveries of an ocean sailor's day

dreaming and meditating. After several hours, we were

overtaken by a tremendous power boat, spewing

pollutants, making scary, boisterous noises and leaving us

in its wake. I felt that at least one of those passengers

must have envied us and felt the glory of nature

and the invigoration that nature gave us.

Author's Notes:  My contest entry poem for the contest:  Summer Is Not Yet Over Picture Prompt

My theme was inspired by the contest's picture prompt and my memories of sailing out from Newport Bay, in Southern California, many years ago.

I am using the picture from the contest announcement -- Fine Art credit...The Fourth of July

A treasure here with your two children put to words.
Your visuals with sea life, and sea craft make this an interesting read as well as inspirational thoughts. For the contest it would have been nice to have the last line of the second to last paragraph changed as it throws off the flow and choice words you have elsewhere of wholesome nature.
    Otherwise a lovely write!
