I saw a wishing star one day,
I wished, I wished that it would stay.
The rain clouds came, it went away,
lost in the star fields of yesterday.
I wanted just a moment in its lovely light,
a moment to dispel all my dark of night;
but quickly, oh how quickly did the rain alight!
That turned all my hopes into a bitter blight.
Washed, I walked the midnight hour alone again;
washed, I walked with sightless power then.
Not knowing where the wishing star had gone or why,
but knowing it was no more winking from the sky.
I saw a wishing star one dreary day,
I wished just before it had gone away.
Don't cry for the wishing star, it's still the same;
carried in the sky so far, there is no shame.
I wanted so to say much more, but time is gone;
closed, I guess, the open door; I'm moving on.
Still, I think about the wishing star sometimes;
it occupies my heart and mind and crying rhymes.

This is beautiful.
I like how you took the prompt and twisted it into something other than a love poem.
Though this poem did rhyme (something I'm not really fond of) it still flowed well and had a lot of depth to it.
Thank you for entering.
