Down to the rivers edge.

Skipping along the rivers edge, the girl with the basket of fudge.
And a lemonade swirrel, she's one happy girl,

away from all of the drudge.
Mom and dad quarrel over bills,

for things which they never will use,
brothers with friends who are bothersome boys,

trouble is always in twos.

Here by the river side, with her best friend,

a doll with a shiny silk dress,
here is the place she escapes from it all,

feels the sunshine's caress.
Here where the wind is a fragrance

of orchards, sweet plum and pear too,
from over the hills where the farmers are plowing,

and doing what farmers all do.

Here by the water she's happiest,

(it's here she would stay if she could),
where dreams wander free and a girl can just be,

and everythings always so good.
Where a blanket of clover calls her right over,

to picnic there in the shade,
for her doll and for she, nothing better could be,

her fantasies all on parade.

Afternoon, now, sun is setting,

so best she be getting along,
For, if she don't hurry, mom's gonna worry

and probably see things all wrong.
Yes, back to the bother of mother and father and brother,

cuz it's understood.
when life is a bore she can come here once more,

where everythings wonderous and good.

Author notes

My sister and I always went to the river to get away from our problems and play when we were kids. Always cheered us up.

I really like this. It's cute and well written. I like all of the descriptions and details that you've included. Also, good job on writing a rhyming poem that flows well
    Thanks for entering.
