Should I sing you songs of love and joy?
Or a sad refrain of loss and longing?
Would such melodious words earn your favor?
Or should I bring you gifts of shiny baubles
to place on your fingers or ears?
Would your smile turn my way if I did?
Would the heaven-sent perfume
of lilies and roses filling your room
win me your blessing?
Speak, fair one, and tell me your dreams
that I might make them true.
Would that influence you?
I think, instead, I'll sit quietly here
amid your shining angels,
reflections of your thoughts.
I'll simply trust your psychic heart
to see through clamor
and distractions
and find my own heart worthy
of gentle regard,
then turn your glance to me.

The baubles may not turn my head, but your poem is wonderful. I'm so glad you decided to enter this in my contest. Your heart is pure. Thank you and good luck. Patricia
